Feeling stuck is not a character flaw. It is a pattern — and like all patterns, it has a structure that can be understood and dismantled.
The core thought pattern behind most experiences of being stuck is identity-based. It sounds like this: “This is just who I am.” “I’ve always been this way.” “I don’t know how to be different.” This pattern is particularly insidious because it feels like self-knowledge — honest acknowledgment of who you are — when it is actually self-limitation disguised as insight.
When you believe your current way of being is your permanent identity rather than a learned pattern, you stop looking for exits from the pattern. You stop attempting the actions that would create change, because you have already concluded the change is not possible for you specifically.
The way out begins with a radical question: “Is this who I am, or is this a pattern I learned?” Almost every “stuck” pattern can be traced to something that once made sense — a protective response, a survival strategy, a conclusion drawn from a difficult experience — but that no longer serves the life you are trying to live.
The Alchemist Lighthouse’s mindset recoding framework (Recognize, Break, Replace, Embody) provides the step-by-step path through and beyond the stuck place. But it requires the willingness to question the story of who you are — which is simultaneously the most frightening and most liberating act available.
Where in your life do you feel most stuck? If you asked ‘is this who I am or a pattern I learned?’, what would the honest answer be?
